About do I have to be a licensed massage therapist to work in San Diego, CA

Do I have to be a licensed massage therapist to work in San Diego, CA?
I just moved to San Diego from Virginia where I was working as a certified massage therapist. I am having a difficult time finding information about the state and city requirements for massage therapists here. If anyone has any information, please let me know. Thanks! :)

Welcome to California! I am a massage therapist and I know it is challenging trying to figure out regulations. Unfortunately, California can't seem to make up it's mind about how much training and what a massage therapist should actually know. So...there is currently no state license, although there is a bill floating around that would make two levels of licensure at 250 hours of training and 500 hours of training. In the meantime, we have to go city by city as far as licensing. I've seen it range anywhere between no hours and a lot of money required, and 1,000 hours or national certification. The best way to find out what's going on is to contact city hall (some cities go through the police department) or see if you can gather any information from local massage schools. If you'd like more info on the bill, try calling Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals aka ABMP at 800/458-2267. I'm sure they can refer you to some more information. Good luck! ( -:

About can my daughter work in San Diego

Can my daughter work in San Diego?
My 15 year old daughter wants to work, we just moved to San Diego. Can a 15 year old get a work permit and work here? She is in school half days, so she could work morning or later in the afternoon (for those of you who will question her schooling.) What type of laws and regulations are there, and where can I find this info?

My daughter worked for an animal kennel. I think all she needed was a work permit from the school. The high school she goes to will be able to answer the rest of your questions I should think. The animal kennel used to hire 15 year olds, but the job competition around here has really gotten rough. Getting a job might be hard...

Here's what you need to know: http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/DLSE-CL.htm From what I remember, you have to have a work permit if you're under 18 and you can only work a certain number of hours a day and per week. Also, unless you're in the entertainment industry, a person under 16 cannot obtain a work permit. The only way someone under 16 can work would be under the table.
