If you're looking for specific high tech companies in the area, you might want to look at socalTECH.com, a news site that covers high technology news in Southern California and the San Diego area. However, if you want to see what are the "best" you should attend networking events and other local events and talk to their employees.

Sometimes Life sucks! Even though you already paid with your time, the society is not ready to accept you back. The psychology of employers is that you did once, you can do it again. There are employers who will risks hiring a person like you / giving them a chance, knowing you are sincere and motivated to make a change in life and can be trusted. I have high hopes for you that you will get hired sooner than you expect. Construction is booming in San Diego and this is a good start for you. Good luck and keep looking!
2 :
People with "less than superb" work histories are having a lot of trouble finding work, and it ain't discrimination! Here's how it happens in my area. A new job opening is advertised, applicants line up There are 10 openings, as advertised, but 100 people apply. (yes, the job market stinks that bad in these parts) Applications are sorted, first into the shredder are those with alot of spelling errors, bad grammar, filled out in crayon, etc. Second cut, those applications where licenses and skills are not adequate (ie, job requires driving, applicant has no license). The field is still 50 or more applicants for those 10 jobs! On to the background check and personal interviews! Based on these items the remaining applicants are given their final designation, the top 10 are called in to work, the remaining applicants are informed that they did not get the job.

I don't know about California, but in Virginia you can work at 15, though the hours are a little restricted until you turn 16. I worked at an Arby's restaurant. I know, I know, you probably don't want to work fast food, but you get all-you-can-drink soda and discounts on food. So on that note you might want to pick a place that serves relatively healthy food like Subway, Chick-fil-A, Arbys, Quiznos, etc. Can you deliver newspapers? If it is a big town you can do this riding a bike. Once you turn 16 there should be no restrictions on hours and you can work at practically any retail store. Blockbuster video might be a good place, or a clothes store. Good luck!
2 :
You won't find any real job because no company can hire a 15 year old child... IT'S AGAINST THE LAW... they have nothing to do with it... it's against the CHILD LABOR LAWS.
3 :
I worked for the Del Mar Fair and Racetrack every summer up until a few years ago from the time I was 14 years old. The law is that you can get a work permit and are limited to a certain number of hours and certain hours per day (not past 10 pm?). It may be a little late to get on at the racetrack, but they always need bus boys/girls for their restaurants. Call premier food services (858)755-6345. Other small, local restaurants might be a good bet as well. You should also try like a yogurt place or something like that. There are a lot of jobs people don't mind giving to teens because they don't take a ton of responsibility and they just need a body to do the work. You could also just try retail. I know they have age restrictions too. Probably the smaller the business, the better. Like not a chain. Also, it might be good to get the work permit 1st to show them you are eligible (if that's possible). Good luck. Here is a link to the CA website re: work permits.

About do I have to be a licensed massage therapist to work in San Diego, CA

Do I have to be a licensed massage therapist to work in San Diego, CA?
I just moved to San Diego from Virginia where I was working as a certified massage therapist. I am having a difficult time finding information about the state and city requirements for massage therapists here. If anyone has any information, please let me know. Thanks! :)

Welcome to California! I am a massage therapist and I know it is challenging trying to figure out regulations. Unfortunately, California can't seem to make up it's mind about how much training and what a massage therapist should actually know. So...there is currently no state license, although there is a bill floating around that would make two levels of licensure at 250 hours of training and 500 hours of training. In the meantime, we have to go city by city as far as licensing. I've seen it range anywhere between no hours and a lot of money required, and 1,000 hours or national certification. The best way to find out what's going on is to contact city hall (some cities go through the police department) or see if you can gather any information from local massage schools. If you'd like more info on the bill, try calling Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals aka ABMP at 800/458-2267. I'm sure they can refer you to some more information. Good luck! ( -:

About can my daughter work in San Diego

Can my daughter work in San Diego?
My 15 year old daughter wants to work, we just moved to San Diego. Can a 15 year old get a work permit and work here? She is in school half days, so she could work morning or later in the afternoon (for those of you who will question her schooling.) What type of laws and regulations are there, and where can I find this info?

My daughter worked for an animal kennel. I think all she needed was a work permit from the school. The high school she goes to will be able to answer the rest of your questions I should think. The animal kennel used to hire 15 year olds, but the job competition around here has really gotten rough. Getting a job might be hard...
2 :
Here's what you need to know: http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/DLSE-CL.htm From what I remember, you have to have a work permit if you're under 18 and you can only work a certain number of hours a day and per week. Also, unless you're in the entertainment industry, a person under 16 cannot obtain a work permit. The only way someone under 16 can work would be under the table.
3 :
yeah she can work in san diego you have to get a work permit signed by her school most places may not want to hire someone that is 15 but if she can find a job than she can work ohh and she can only work a limited number of hours in a week

2 :
post ur reseme on a site and wait for a job to come to u
3 :
Post your resume on job sites, but also research and locate potential businesses and companies that fit what you want to be doing, and start submitting resumes including details pertaining to why they would want an executive from NYC to work for them. If you do this, you'll almost definitely locate a job, and they might even offer to move you out to San Diego themselves.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible tso work in San Diego and live in Tijuana MX, I would like to know how it works and if its possible to do this? I would like to do this because I know that the rent down there is much cheaper than SD.

Why would you want to do that? TJ sucks. It is a cheap little border town with more than it's share of murders annually.
2 :
A friend of mine recently went to Tijuana and was robbed at gunpoint. They made him go to an ATM and literally emptied his bank account. Seriously...I wouldn't move there.
3 :
I work with a lot of people who do just that. You just live there and cross the border every morning. Problem is that unless you have a Sentry pass (not sure how you get that), it can take several hours to cross over because so many people do it every day. I think my co worker had to leave by 6:30 to get to work before 8:30 and we are only about 15 minutes from the border.

Traffic through the border in the morning is getting hellish. the LA times had an article on this in the last few days. If you have a flexible work schedule it could work
2 :
I really don't know. You'd be driving accross quite a distance each day I'm guessing. Not to mention having to deal with border guards most of the time. Probably would be easier to live in the area you're working.
3 :
Yea, it is to good to be true, how are you going to get to work, you'd have to take a plane or something to get there fast enough.
4 :
Go check on the rents and do a few fake commutes before jumping in
5 :
I know many people that do it, but not by choice! Also, There is a special ID called Fast-track that regular and trusted commuters can get for a price. That would cut down on the wait to cross into San Diego.
6 :
Many people do the crossing everyday for school and work. The SENTRI pass permits approved car and driver to use a special lane, but even with that the crossing times get longer...forty minutes last week. Living in the Playas Tijuana would bring you closer to the Border to cut down on driving time. Otherwise it is a nightmare of idling in place up to two hours. The two governments keep meeting on the problem and it is still craziness if one has to be at work early mornings. Give it some serious thought and get plenty of compensation.

Is it easy to find work in San Diego?
Hi I am getting a four months working visa to see a bit from that other side of the world. Mainly because I want to reward myself for having finally finished my degree. See a little more sun then what one can get in London, and improve my health. The only question is weather one can find wrk in San Diego easily? or would I keep on searching for three months and then have to go, you know!

You could set up interviews for when you arrive. You don't need to wait until you get to San Diego to start looking. San Diego is one of the top 10 largest cities in the US and the 2nd largest city in California. I would imagine that if you couldn't get a job there then you would have a much harder time getting a job anywhere else. Go to CraigsList.com and search for job listings there to get an idea of what is available: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/ Good Luck.
2 :
It's very easy to find work, but of course it depends on what kind of job you want and how much money you want to make. Based on your post, I'm going to assume that you really just want to earn some pocket money for the summer and that you really don't want to work too hard and you're not really looking to get rich while you're here. I have several recommendations in that case. Contact the main temp agencies for some basic office work. Office Team is one to comes to mind. Also, there is a Starbucks on almost every corner, I'm sure you could find something with them. I would recommend you start making some contacts now. Check out monster.com . I'm guessing you could also easily find restaurant work near the beach for the summer. Keep in mind that as far as the US is concerned, San Diego is a somewhat expensive place to live. Rent is quite high here...precisely because of the weather. To get a taste of what's going on here, check out the sandiegoreader.com they also have job postings as well as apartments for rent. Good luck!

Where are some places a teenager can work in San Diego?
I'm 14 almost 15, and I'm trying to see if there's any possibility of a summer job for me. I've checked the California child labor laws already, and I know there are limited hours for those 16 and under. I have a classmate who says she'll be working at Miramar College in the bookstore (she's also my age). Is it true you could work there at 14 years old? Any suggestions would help, thanks! I prefer if you could recommend an actual store and not mowing the lawn, chores, etc.

You should get a used Sprint/Nextel Powersource phone which will allow you to receive network only signal from Sprint throughout most of Tijuana. It will also allow you to use the push to talk wakie talkie network which most people in Tijuana now use. I recommend looking for a Nextel phone on craigslist and buying chip at the Sprint store. Newer Sprint,Verizon, etc. and Nextel phones will have their signals automatically cutoff and send you into international roaming as soon as you cross the border which is why I recommend the used Powersource phone

Most with EMT-B certificates work on Ambulance companies. It will not pay very well, possibly $9-12 an hour. The hours will depend on the company you work for. There are 12, 24, and some pay by each call you go on. It's can be used as a gateway into firefighting/hospital careers which will pay substantially better.

1 :
Definitly by 7am. You might get some before (6am-7am) but it won't be too bad. From the North county going south on the 5 is horrible....Also 8 going west, 5 & 805 going north from the south bay.
2 :
Between 6 and 7 AM inbound to downtown: I-5 southbound from Encinitas, and I-15 and SR-163 southbound from Escondido .
3 :
The traffic starts building up around 7 am then tapers off after 8am, it is pretty much limited to that hour at the worst, but it never actually clears out. It backs up again during the noon hour, and gets downright ugly from 3:30 to about 6:30 or longer. On Fridays, Saturdays and Holidays, the traffic never lets up because San Diego is the vacation capitol of California for families.

If you are i9n the city limits you need a "certificate of payment of business tax." The city of sandiego does not license anyone or issue licenses. Nither does the state for musicians. The IRS woudl require you to report all earnings under your SSN or FEIN if your companies are incorportaed. GL
